ESG HONOURS — Honouring Leadership, Inspiring Excellence. An ESG Association of Malaysia recognition.
ESGAM®
About the platform

What ESG HONOURS is

ESG HONOURS is an annual recognition platform by the ESG Association of Malaysia to honour individuals, members and innovators who create verified environmental, social and governance impact.

It celebrates quiet leadership, measurable results, practical innovation, and ESG actions that inspire wider adoption across Malaysian business and society.

Claims are checked against evidence by our independent verification partner, Sunway University, before an independent panel judges merit. That separation is what the word verified is doing in the sentence above.

Three recognitions

Choose the category that fits the achievement

Each category has its own evidence threshold. Selecting the right one is the first thing our verification partner checks.

Open to the public

Unsung Hero

Judged in an individual capacity only — not societies, associations or corporate entities. For a person whose ESG contribution has not been publicly recognised before: grassroots leaders, community founders, educators, researchers, employees, volunteers.

  • Individuals only — anyone may nominate
  • No prior public award or recognition for this contribution
  • Evidence of the activity and of its outcome
  • At least one independent stakeholder or beneficiary confirmation
ESGAM members only

Member ESG Impact Performance

For members who already have results under E, S or G — recognised for direct, delivered impact evidenced by a baseline and a target.

  • Defined KPI, with a stated baseline and target
  • Reported result and the calculation method
  • Supporting organisational records
  • Active ESGAM membership
ESGAM members only

Member ESG Innovation

For members whose solution may not have delivered impact yet, but which has a proof of concept certified by an independent third party. Recognised for the innovation itself.

  • Working prototype, pilot or test result
  • Third-party certification or validation — SIRIM, MyHIJAU, a university, an accredited lab or a customer deployment
  • Impact evidence not required
  • Active ESGAM membership
One nomination, one category. If you are unsure which fits, choose on the basis of what you can evidence today: delivered results → Impact Performance; certified proof of concept without results yet → Innovation; an individual doing unrecognised work → Unsung Hero. The secretariat may reassign a nomination to the correct category before verification.
How it works

From nomination to recognition

Verification and judging are deliberately separated. Sunway University confirms whether claims are supported by evidence; the independent panel then assesses merit.

Nomination

Submit the form and supporting evidence. The secretariat checks that all required sections and documents are complete.

ESGAM Secretariat

Verification

Eligibility screening, evidence check against six verification points, and a clarification request if anything is unclear.

Sunway University

Judging

Verified submissions are scored against the published rubric, with online interviews for shortlisted nominees and a final deliberation.

Independent Judging Panel

Final approval

The panel recommends recipients; the ESGAM Council gives final approval and recognition is conferred at the ceremony on 11 November 2026.

ESGAM Council
Judging criteria (published for transparency): ESG Impact 30% · Contribution to ESG pillars 30% · Authenticity and Humility 20% · Inspiration and Replicability 20%. Each criterion is scored 1–10 by every judge.

Before you start

What you will need

The form takes about 20 minutes. You do not have to finish in one sitting — your answers and files are saved automatically in your browser, so you can close the page and continue later on the same computer.

Eligibility

  • The impact must be created in Malaysia, for Malaysia, or deliver measurable ESG outcomes within Malaysia. Nationality and foreign ownership are not in themselves a barrier — see below.
  • The initiative was implemented within the last 24 months (up to 3 years for long-running programmes).
  • Nominations may be made by employers, peers, associations, clients or community members — self-nomination is accepted.
  • Unsung Hero is for individuals only, and the contribution must not have been publicly recognised before.
  • The two member categories require active ESGAM membership and a membership number.
  • Each nominee may enter one category only in a cycle.
  • Past recipients may be nominated again only after three years.

Documents to upload

Every nomination needs the signed self-declaration. The evidence required then depends on your category:

  • Unsung Hero — evidence of the activity; evidence of its outcome; at least one independent stakeholder or beneficiary confirmation.
  • Impact Performance — KPI with baseline and target; reported result and calculation method; supporting organisational records.
  • Innovation — proof of concept (prototype, pilot or test results); third-party certification or validation.
  • Optional for all: your latest sustainability or ESG report if your organisation publishes one, plus nominee photograph and profile, media coverage, testimonials.

Nationality, ownership and Malaysian impact

For all ESG HONOURS categories, nationality or foreign ownership does not in itself disqualify an applicant or nominee. The governing principle is:

The nominee may be global, but the impact recognised by ESG HONOURS must be created in Malaysia, for Malaysia, or deliver measurable ESG outcomes within Malaysia.

Unsung Hero — individuals

Nominees need not be Malaysian citizens or permanent residents. To be eligible:

  • The nominee personally led, initiated, contributed to or played a material role in the initiative.
  • The principal ESG impact was conducted, implemented or delivered in Malaysia.
  • The beneficiaries, communities, organisations, environment or stakeholders affected are substantially based in or connected to Malaysia.
  • The claimed impact is demonstrable and reasonably measurable within Malaysia.

Activities conducted primarily outside Malaysia do not qualify merely because the nominee lives, works or is associated with an organisation here.

Member categories — organisations

The applicant must be an eligible ESGAM member operating through a Malaysian-registered entity. Where the applicant is part of an international or multinational group, the submission must be made through the Malaysian incorporated entity — a Sdn. Bhd. or Berhad — that holds or qualifies for membership. The initiative must:

  • Be implemented, deployed or materially applied in Malaysia.
  • Generate identifiable ESG impact within Malaysia.
  • Be attributable, in whole or in material part, to the Malaysian entity submitting the application.
  • Be supported by evidence demonstrating the resulting impact in Malaysia.

Initiatives undertaken solely by an overseas parent, affiliate or related entity do not qualify unless materially implemented in Malaysia with measurable Malaysian outcomes.

Please note: marketing material alone is not sufficient evidence. Verification confirms that a claim is supported — it is not an audit of your whole organisation, and recognition is honorary rather than a certification or accreditation.
Nomination form

Submit a nomination

All fields marked * are required. You will receive an acknowledgement email with your reference number immediately after submitting.

One nominee, one category. Each nominee may be entered in one category only for the 2026 cycle. Please choose the single category that best fits what you can evidence today — duplicate entries across categories will be withdrawn, and the secretariat will contact you to confirm which one should stand.
Step 1 of 8

Category and nomination type

Choose one category only. A nominee may not be entered in more than one category in the same cycle. If you are unsure, pick the one you can evidence today — the secretariat may reassign it and will tell you if they do.
Which recognition are you nominating for? *
Nomination type *
The submission must be made through the Malaysian incorporated entity that holds or qualifies for ESGAM membership. Where you are part of an international group, name the Malaysian Sdn. Bhd. or Berhad, not the parent.
Step 2 of 8

Your details (Nominator)

Step 3 of 8

Nominee details

The nominee is *
Website and social media Optional but recommended
Links help the verification partner confirm your claim. Add the nominee's website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, news coverage or anything else relevant. Add as many as you need.
Has this contribution been publicly recognised before? *
Unsung Hero is intended for people whose work has not yet been publicly acknowledged. A previous award, prize or public honour for this contribution normally makes the nominee ineligible for this category — internal team thanks or local press mentions do not.
Step 4 of 8

The ESG contribution

A short, factual title. e.g. "River clean-up and water quality monitoring, Sungai Klang 2024–2025".
Primary ESG pillar *
State what was done, when, where and for whom. Be specific and avoid promotional language. (Max 2,000 characters.)
Identify the beneficiaries — communities, employees, ecosystems, stakeholders — and roughly how many.
Distinguish activity from outcome. Where you use numbers, state the baseline, the reporting period and how the figure was calculated.
Impact Performance: this category recognises results you have already delivered. The figures below are what the verification partner checks against your uploaded records.
One primary KPI. e.g. "Scope 1 and 2 emissions (tCO₂e)", "Lost-time injury rate", "Percentage of suppliers screened on ESG criteria".
Value and year
Value and target year
Value and period
How the figure was derived, the standard or protocol applied, what is included and excluded, and whether it has been externally assured.
Optional but valued by the panel — e.g. impact delivered per RM invested, or result achieved relative to turnover.
Innovation: delivered impact is not required for this category. What is required is a proof of concept certified or validated by an independent third party.
Describe the solution, the ESG problem it addresses, and what makes it different from existing approaches.
Stage of proof *
e.g. SIRIM, MyHIJAU, a university, an accredited laboratory, a named customer
As it appears on the document you are uploading
Estimates are acceptable here — state the assumptions behind them.
Name any partners, funders or external factors, and describe what the nominee was directly responsible for.
How were community groups, NGOs, agencies or employees involved?
Judged under "Inspiration and Replicability" (20% of the score).
Step 5 of 8

Independent referees

Provide up to two people who can independently confirm the contribution. Sunway University may contact them during verification. At least one referee is required.

Referee 1 *

Referee 2 Optional

Step 6 of 8

Due diligence declaration

To be answered in respect of the nominee. A "Yes" answer does not automatically disqualify a nomination — it is reviewed by the secretariat in confidence.

Step 7 of 8

Supporting documents

Accepted formats: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, PNG, MP4. Maximum 25 MB per file and 120 MB in total. Files are stored in ESGAM's Google Drive and shared only with the secretariat, the verification partner and the judging panel.

Step 8 of 8

Declarations and consent

If AI tools were used to draft any part of this submission, describe how. Leave blank if not applicable.
Leave blank if there is nothing to disclose.
Typing your name here has the same effect as signing the declaration.
Once you submit, the secretariat is notified immediately and a Google Drive folder is created for your submission. You will receive your reference number by email — quote it in any correspondence.

Final decision

All decisions of the verification partner, the judging committee and the ESGAM Council — on eligibility, verification, scoring, shortlisting, recognition and the withholding of recognition — are final and binding. No appeal, correspondence or review of decisions will be entertained. Submission does not guarantee shortlisting, an interview, or recognition.

Rights reserved by ESGAM

The ESG Association of Malaysia reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion and without giving reasons, to:

Nature of the recognition

Recognition under ESG HONOURS is honorary. It does not constitute certification, accreditation, endorsement, assurance, or any warranty by ESGAM as to the accuracy or completeness of claims made by an applicant. Verification confirms whether a claim is supported by the evidence provided; it is not an audit of the applicant or its organisation, and it does not extend to matters outside the claim reviewed.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, ESGAM, its Council, secretariat, verification partner, judges, sponsors and partners shall not be liable for any loss, damage, cost or claim arising from participation in the programme, from non-selection, from the withdrawal of a recognition, or from reliance by any party on information submitted by applicants or third parties. Applicants remain responsible for the accuracy of their own submissions and for obtaining any consent required from the people, organisations and beneficiaries named in them.

Confidentiality and data

Submissions are shared with the ESGAM Secretariat, the verification partner and the appointed judging panel, all of whom are bound by confidentiality. Personal data is processed in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Mark clearly any commercially confidential information; ESGAM will handle it accordingly but cannot accept liability for its disclosure by third parties outside its control.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can I nominate myself?

Yes. Self-nomination is accepted for all categories. You will still need at least one independent referee who can confirm the contribution.

What happens after I submit?

The secretariat completes a completeness check within five working days. Complete submissions are passed to Sunway University for eligibility screening and evidence checking. If anything is unclear, Sunway will send you a short clarification request — you will normally have seven working days to respond.

Why should I submit early?

Verification runs continuously through the nomination window rather than after it closes. Submit in August or September and you will have a full seven working days to answer any clarification request. Submissions received on or after 1 October have a shortened three working day window, and nominations arriving in the final week may be assessed on the evidence as filed, with no clarification round, so that judging can conclude by 30 October.

Which category should I choose?

Choose on the basis of what you can evidence today. An individual whose work has not been publicly recognised → Unsung Hero. An ESGAM member with results already delivered, with a baseline and a target → Impact Performance. An ESGAM member with a proof of concept certified by an independent third party, but no impact figures yet → Innovation. If you choose the wrong one, the secretariat will reassign the nomination and tell you.

Can an association or a company be nominated for Unsung Hero?

No. Unsung Hero is judged in an individual capacity only. Nominate the person who did the work. Organisations should enter through the two member categories.

What does "verified" mean?

Sunway University reviews your main claim against six points: claim clarity, supporting evidence, results achieved, organisational contribution, accuracy and balance, and an overall conclusion. The conclusion is one of Proceed, Proceed with limitations, or Do not proceed. Verification confirms that evidence supports the claim; it does not assess merit and it is not an audit of your organisation.

Who sees my documents?

The ESGAM secretariat, the verification team at Sunway University, and the judging panel. Judges sign confidentiality declarations. Mark any confidential business information clearly and it will be handled accordingly.

Can a past recipient be nominated again?

Not immediately. A past ESG HONOURS recipient may be nominated again only after three years — that is, three cycles must pass before they are eligible. This keeps the recognition open to new people and organisations each year. A nominee who was entered previously but did not receive a recognition may be nominated again in the very next cycle, and we encourage it where the evidence has since been strengthened.

Can I enter the same nominee in more than one category?

No. Each nominee may be entered in one category only per cycle, and you are asked to confirm this before submitting. If duplicate entries are received, the secretariat will contact you to confirm which one should stand and withdraw the other. Choose the category you can evidence today: delivered results with a baseline and target go to Impact Performance; a certified proof of concept without results yet goes to Innovation; an individual whose work has not been publicly recognised goes to Unsung Hero.

Do I need to submit a sustainability report?

No — it is optional. If your organisation publishes a sustainability or ESG report, you may attach the latest one and it gives the verification partner helpful context. Its absence does not count against a nomination, and individuals and small community groups are not expected to have one.

Is there a fee?

No. There is no fee to submit a nomination for ESG HONOURS.

Can I fill in part of the form and finish later?

Yes. Everything you type, and the files you attach, are saved automatically as you go — you'll see "Draft saved" next to the Continue button. Close the page whenever you like and return within 45 days; you will be offered the choice to continue where you stopped or start again.

Two things to know. The draft is stored in your own browser on that computer — nothing is sent to ESGAM until you press Submit — so you cannot start on one device and finish on another, and the draft is lost if you clear your browsing data or use private browsing. And if you are on a shared or public computer, choose Start again and clear your browsing data when you finish, so your answers are not left behind.

Can I edit my submission after sending it?

Not directly. Email the secretariat with your reference number and we will attach the corrected material to your submission folder before verification begins.
